Establish Marriages

In The House of Representatives of the Republic of Andorn
April 27th of 2025

Speaker Maxterpiece and Representative Aladeen in agreeance with this bills contents, hereby recommend this bill to the House for their consideration​

Section 1 - Short Title:
(1) This bill may be cited as the “Marriages Act of 2025“

Section 2 - Marriages:
(1) Marriage is a legal union between two individual citizens of the Republic of Andorn.
(2) No individual may be married to more than one person at a time.
(3) In order for a marriage to be valid under Andornian law, both individuals must:
(i) Be registered citizens of the Republic of Andorn,
(ii) Approval of a government Marriage License, with the following responsibilities delegated by the Head of Government to a Department of their choosing
(iii) Be married in a ceremony performed by a registered Lawyer or other Government-authorized official.
(4) Upon completion of the ceremony and approval by the relevant Government Department, the marriage shall be entered into the National Marriage Register.

Section 3 - Divorces:
(1) A legal divorce may be initiated by either or both parties to a marriage through submission of a Divorce Petition to the appropriate Government Department.
(2) A divorce is only valid once reviewed and approved by a registered Lawyer, in cases of agreement of both parties, or Judge, in cases where an agreement cannot be made, who will then confirm:
(i) The mutual consent of both parties, or
(ii) That just cause for divorce has been demonstrated, including but not limited to abandonment, , or sustained irreconcilable differences.
(3) Upon approval, the marriage will be removed from the National Marriage Register, and both parties shall be recognized as legally single.
(4) Once divorced, either individual may legally remarry, so long as they meet the qualifications of this Act.
(5) Any disputes involving property, residence, or civil obligations post-divorce must be resolved as a part of divorce proceedings in a court of law.

Section 4 -Marriage Offenses:
(1) The following offenses will be established as crimes, as per the Andornian Criminal Code:

(i) Classification: Class E Summary Offense
The act of attempting to initiate a marriage when not legally able, for example due to citizenship or an existing marriage.
